Trump Policies Seen as Detrimental by 90% of Japanese Companies: Survey

A recent Reuters survey revealed that nearly 90% of Japanese companies view former President Donald Trump’s policies as detrimental to their business operations. The survey, conducted in February 2025, highlights growing concerns among Japanese firms about the potential impact of Trump’s trade and economic policies on global markets.

The survey, which included responses from over 500 Japanese companies, found that 87% of respondents believe Trump’s policies would negatively affect their business. Key concerns include increased tariffs, trade tensions, and uncertainty surrounding U.S.-Japan relations.

“Trump’s protectionist policies create significant challenges for Japanese businesses,” said Hiroshi Tanaka, an economist at Nomura Securities. “The uncertainty surrounding trade agreements and tariffs makes it difficult for companies to plan for the future.”

The survey also revealed that Japanese companies are particularly worried about the potential for renewed trade wars, which could disrupt supply chains and increase costs. Many respondents expressed hope for more stable and predictable trade policies under future U.S. administrations.

Despite these concerns, some Japanese companies remain optimistic about opportunities in the U.S. market, particularly in sectors like technology and automotive manufacturing.
