China Strikes Back: New Tariffs Announced in Retaliation Against U.S. Measures
  • PublishedMarch 6, 2025

In response to the latest round of U.S. tariff hikes, China has announced new economic countermeasures, signaling an escalation in the ongoing trade war. The U.S. justified the tariffs by citing fentanyl-related concerns—a claim that China rejects as a political excuse.

Lin Jian, China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, emphasized that Beijing will not succumb to pressure and is prepared to “fight till the end.” As part of its response, China will implement new tariffs of up to 15% on key U.S. agricultural products such as soybeans and pork, effective March 10.

With China’s National People’s Congress underway, officials are focusing on strengthening the country’s economic resilience. A 5% GDP growth target and increased defense spending highlight China’s commitment to standing firm against external pressures.
